Day 6

What a good day. It started out with the same medical routine as every day before, but the day was different. Constantine celebrated his 45th birthday in quite the extraordinary way. A festival was in the air and soon after he and Sergiy braved the cold sea water we started the celebrations. The swim was a dangerous outing for Constantin who faced the rough seas. If anything went wrong he would not have much reserve energy to get himself out of trouble.

From a medical perspective I am starting to be more and more concerned about Andriy. His skin color is not good and he is really not looking well. I have suggested that he takes some fluids but he is reluctant to - until we reach land tomorrow - I hope we do so sooner than later. They all still have amazed me - tomorrow will be seven days without food and water. The severe lack of sleep on board is making their goal so much harder. I have not heard of or read about such a long dry fasting period before. This may change the limits of human survival times set by conventional medicine. Rewrite the clinical books... How many "search and rescue" events in the past were given up when there may still have been hope if this ultimate survival is possible?

I am turning to my bunk under a quarter to moon listening to the some Ukrainian folk music in the background. Tomorrow we will see land again.
