Day 37

We spent another day on the island and then departed for Samana. Getting all the gear back into the dingy for a beach launch was tricky and I was concerned for injuries, but we were able to escape with only Anatoli sustaining a small laceration on the head. Constantin is very tired and dizzy. He was barely able to walk two steps without resting on the way back from the beach. I once again urge that he should start drinking some juice or tea, but he declines. I checked his blood glucose and blood pressure which were both very low. I think that his energy reserve are almost run out at this stage. It will only be three more days. I can almost start to count down in hours now.

It has now become my time to endure...I have decided to spend the last three or four  days without food and water myself in order to comprehend better what that team has been going through. A man has no sympathy for the hungry unless you have been hungry yourself. My first day was not bad. I am starting to get thirsty this evening, but hopefully I can fall asleep soon. It is a difficult thing as I am weary at the end of this long journey, but now is as a best time as any. For now....I just have to hold on and test my willpower...I ended up standing watch until late in the evening. It was a long night.
