Day 5

Day 5 of the fast. Insomnia reigned high on board as the seas were rough and the ship was listing badly through the night. I did not get much sleep - clinging with white knuckles to the table next to my bunk, but nevertheless the team started the day in high spirits. I did the routine medical check up this morning. All three had slightly higher blood glucose levels today (still within the normal range - but highly abnormal if you have not been eating for so long). Andriy had some protein in his urine. My concern for his kidney function is growing. Later Constantin also tested positive for protein in his urine. They reported fatigue but said they where otherwise feeling fine. I once again raised my concerns if they remain so severely dehydrated, but they were still determined to continue their experiment. I hope that we reach Las Palmas quickly so that we can do some blood work. They are really starting to amaze me with their determination. Goltis mentioned desire to continue the dry fast for a few more days. I tried to discourage him, but I don't think that I was very successful.

Then the dolphins came... They were so spectacular in their underwater flight around the boat. Just a quick hello with their fins and then they were gone. It made the nervous night of the storms worth while. The sickle moon and its two sisters rose in all its glory early in the evening.
