| "Good morning Saint Neptune". The life onboard started just
as slowly as the sunrise but then...He drank! Out of the blue...he drank.
We were still sitting around in the cabin with Goltis and the captain
having some discussion going. I did not understand the Russian content,
but the next moment he decided to drink. I am so relieved! Life has
returned to his veins at 17h50 GMT. Just an hour or so before we had
a swam behind the boat and Goltis shouted to me: "Open your eyes"
- I am so thankful for his prompt as I have never seen such a deep blue
as this. Staring down at the depths of the Atlantic ocean. It makes
me fear - fear that I now cannot go back to grey. And what a dangerous
thing this "Life" I feel in the company of starving men.
I have to say it again. I am so relieved
Goltis drank today (even if the sea is rough and there are some dark
clouds around) Who cares - he drank. Fourteen days later. Not three
or seven...fourteen. I am amazed that he is still laughing away in the
flickering cabin light this evening. Rewrite the clinical books! It
is possible to survive fourteen days without food or water. I cannot
wait to see the disbelief in my colleagues eyes when I tell them. I have not seen any ships in the
vicinity today either. Seems that we are quite alone here on the Atlantic. |
