Day 18

Through the night the boat trembled when the white waters took the railings in it's grip. Neptune himself trying to keep us back. Away from the new world. This morning the air was fresh and the sun was dancing on the cabin roof when I woke up. I dreamt last night. I slowly scuffled onto the deck and drank some coffee in the salty air. It feels as if we may be heading to the tropics after all. There has been no other sails for 5 days now.

Constantin is doing so well that he suggests to go on a few days without water. I try and discourage him by suggesting "maybe towards the end again". What is this feeling of death that they long for? Goltis also comments that he may go a few days without water again. I can just shake my head as nothing I say seems to make any impact. The rest of the day passed uneventfully. We seem to make good speed with our broken boom. TI swam again - he deep blue sea was 6000 m deep underneath my feet. To let go of the ladder of the boat would be like to jump from an airplane. I wonder if there were any dolphins who said they spotted me today...

The guys start to complain about their constipation First Constantin and then Goltis. It has been almost 20 days since their last bowel movement. It must be uncomfortable. Anatoli called upon me twice in the evening. First to show me the rising moon and then a ship on our starboard bow. Her lights friendly in the passing as she came closer as if to say hello.
